The First Line Journal’s summer 2023 issue is now available, and it includes my short story “To A Mind Diseased.”
Each quarter the journal gives a first line with which all stories must begin. What happens next is up to the author. For the summer issue the starter line was, “All the lawns on Mentone Avenue are mowed on Wednesdays.” Naturally this led me to write a cozy dystopian psychological horror story. Other authors went in very different directions, from a present-day lawn care empire collapsing under the pressures of drought and xeriscaping to two very different post-apocalyptic visions…
